24HR Battle for Bushfire Victims
(Gold Coast) Monday Feb 16, 2009

Leading Australian Motorcycle identity Robbie Bolger and his team fought the good fight across the Valentines Day Weekend, proving victorious in their 24hr battle to raise funds for the victims of the Victorian and New South Wales Bushfires.

The annual Le Minz 24 Hr Scooter Race staged in Queensland’s Gold Coast, sees the cream of Australia’s motorcycle fraternity turning out to battle each other and the elements in an all day and all night run to the flag.

Robbie’s team, sponsored by Global Trading School, was a factory backed effort by Derbi Scooters, supported by local distributer Scooter HQ.

The team Struggled through wind, rain and darkness to win the annual endurance race by and incredible 81 laps, having finished in second place last year due to driver illness.

“Nothing was stopping us this year; Global Trading School made it very clear that this was about raising money for the bushfire victims and we left nothing in reserve to take out the race and generate as much money as possible.” Robbie Bolger going on to say: “Fatigue plays a major part in this race, particularly through the early hours of the morning, but a few pep talks from the Principal House team reminded us how important this was and how hard those fire fighters pushed themselves when they needed to. We got things pretty easy really, a few worn out tyres, a broken chain and some dehydration is nothing compared to what those people had to go through.”

Leading a squad that included Gold Coast local lad Matt Mingay, Victorian Allan Morrison and Brisbane based John Stamanos, Bolgers’ team took charge early in the race and continued to stretch their lead throughout the night and into the early hours of the second day. A scheduled stop for tyre maintenance was a slick and professional affair, allowing them to return to the race without having lost the lead position.

Each member of the Global Trading School Team played an integral part in the success, a pre-requisite to the sponsorship package which specified the need for a strong team ethos and clear roles for each member.

Bolger lead the charge with more than 7 hours on the motorcycle, simultaneously managing the pit strategy to keep the Principal House entry at the front of the field. “We know the Principal House people

don’t like to take risks” continued Bolger, so it was important to plan this even well and we set out some months ago to prepare our equipment and our strategy in such a way that there could be no doubt as to our success.”

The Global Trading School Endurance Team will back up in 2010, with plans already in place to field a larger team and the feelers are out for a suitable charity to be the lucky recipient of some much needed funds.
